  • Salt retrospective.

I had salt tanks for about 20 yr : But, 10 yr ago I gave up when a hurricane shut off power for a week. I had some battery aerators that kept fish alive but most inverts died. I was successful enough to sell caulerpas to shops in Chicago and Houston. One thing I found was UG filters eliminated the need of additions of Ca ( I know ,it is not PC, but I tend to do things that are not PC .) Ca stayed steady at 500 ppm. The gravel was full of red worms and other creepy crawley things. Another interesting point was that the ph would drop to 8.3 at night ,then rise to 8.5+ in the light . The caulerpa would remove CO2 during the day ,raising the pH number. (I have been fighting the urge to start salt again .)
