  • Fish ID

I caught this fish in June. The world record China Rockfish is 17.5 inches long - mine was 19 inches. I did not register the fish for a record due to the remote location but had the fish mounted.

It would have looked awesome in a big saltwater tank.

If you go fishing out of San Diego, you seldom catch a rockfish more than a few pounds. However, the largest rockfish on record is a 39.1-pound shortraker rockfish, caught a few years ago. The rockfish may be the longest living fish. They can live more than 150 years.

Most China Rockfish do not exceed 14 inches. Mine was an exceptional fish at 19 inches.

Wow 39 pounds! Impressive. I didn't know that there was a thing called Rock Fishing. And I use to go fishing , but only around here.
I have been to San Diego many times for vacation break, like 3 days at time. Just enough to stop by the beach. And their water is clear. Very beautiful.

A fish normally costs about $20 to $22 per inch for a wall mount. If you want a base (like my China Rockfish), there is a premium. My base was $100, which I thought was quite reasonable.

I now have seven mounted fish and plan to do one more soon. The fish include:

Northern pike (42 inches, Lake Dubay,Wisconsin)
Smallmouhth bass (24 inches, Kentucky Lake, Kentucky)
White bass (17 inches, Lake Livingston, Texas)
Red Snapper (36.5 inches, Gulf of Mexico, Texas)
China Rockfish (19 inches, Pacific Ocean, Yakobi Island, Alaska)
Yelloweye Rockfish (31 inches, Pacific Ocean, Yakobi Island, Alaska)
One-of-a-kind Yelloweye Rockfish - rare pigmentation, dark red (24 inches, Yakobi Island, Alaska)

My hobbies are fish keeping, fishing and cooking fish
