  • Chlorine!?

I've got a puzzle for everyone.
I've got a 40b and a 20g sump I've been cycling with just water, sand, rock and a dead shrimp for about 2 weeks now. Yesterday It tested positive for Chlorine. It's a tetra strip test, which I know aren't accurate, but I tested my 10g and it shows no chlorine. I also tested my RO/DI water I buy [watermill express] and it shows no chlorine. I have other tests besides strips for everything but chlorine.
A week ago it tested negative for chlorine in my 40b. I noticed it yesterday, and dosed some prime into it I had laying around. It's still showing chlorine today.
Also, I have access to three separate batches of these strips, they are all are reading the same.
I changed 5 gallons today, and added more prime.
What could be causing this? I'm fairly certain it's a false positive.
    Nitrate: 200+ ppm
Nitrite: 10+ ppm [It's on it's way down.]
    Chlorine: 1.0 ppm
    Alkalinity: 120-180 ppm
    PH: 8.4
    SG: 1.025
    Temp: 80°F

Those are really bad numbers. Someone told me the shrimp should only be in the tank for about three days not sure if that is accurate. It should go high ammonia then nitrite then those should go to zero then your nitrates will be high but I don't think that high. Then when it is zero you have finished your cycling process. The 120-180 also does not sound correct either should only be one number. I would say take the shrimp out and get a better test kit. Not strips. Don't know about the cholorine showing up sounds odd to me if you are using RO water.
