  • 2nd Annual GHACian Native Collection Trip (April Meeting)

Its that time of the year again and We will be hosting the April GHAC meeting, entailing local collecting of fish and fauna. It will take place on April 19th (Saturday) and will again start earlier in the day (likely around noon, though perhaps a bit earlier) and I will be leading whoever wishes to come along through a variety of local streams and creeks, collecting and discussing the local creatures we can find. All ages are welcome and last year we had quite a handful of young aquarists lending a hand and showing us older folks how catching fish was done. I will be posting up more details as the time approaches, but anyone interested in keeping some of their finds should consider starting to cycle those tanks for the ready when they return triumphantly with those Sailfin Mollies, Golden Killifish, or ostentacious Pirate Perch... Feel free to let speak up if anyone has some new ideas or thoughts on adding a bit more this year. I definitely want to do a bit more when it comes to photographing species and plant collections.

Awesome, those seasoned veterans of yours will have to show those new folks how fish are caught! Bet they'll be identifying and everything

Very cool, we always spot scuds (Gammarus) and they are thriving in our planted tank. Spot them occasionally, but they are small and its quite the jungle. They are not difficult once you know a few tricks at where to look. Lots of cool invert stuff!

Would we need any type of license or something to collect them?

Yes, thanks for reminding me. Freshwater fishing licenses are required for anyone above 18 that will be collecting. You can acquire a one day license at Academy, Wal-Mart, or most outdoor type stores.

Looking forward to seeing everybody tomorrow. Can't wait to see what everyone gets. Picked up a seine net so that should net some stuff thats harder to catch otherwise...

I will be there for some of the meeting. I don't have anywhere to put collected things due to most of my aquariums being temporarily empty. But I would lov e to see everyone. Could use the moral boost lol.
