  • What kind of minnow is this?

    Can anyone identify these minnows? They were sold to someone I know as fathead minnows.

            Some sort of Shiner, not sure about species exactly though. Here is a site that I utilize for identification that should help

              Nice site BTW !!! Some species of Notropsis are imported here (Holland Europe) as well. Do you think it's a native species we're talking about ??

                I would imagine, they are often collected and sold as bait fish here. Most are difficult to acclimate over to aquarium conditions and really need better water quality then many native tanks have. Fun fish overall, but can get sizable and really need a bigger tank for a proper school. I have seen a huge school at the zoo once and was amazed at just how impressive it was.

                  I used to work at a pet store as a kid and we just sold them as bait/feeders. i dont know the exact species or anything, but i would agree with mnemenoi as some type of shiner
