                      That is tough, Caterpillars are one of my weak areas. They vary so much they can be tough to ID, but I'd guess it was part of the Cutworm or Owlet Moths (Family Noctuidae) (My guess is a Cherry Dagger Moth Acronicta hasta nearing its last instar)

                          Ehhh, I might be way off. Families are easier, especially the limited groups. The broader and heavily diversified ones always give me trouble. Helps to know what it was feeding on. Many only feed on one specific type of plant.
