  • My 800 gallon Tanganyikan Aquarium

It's not as blue as the camera would lead you to believe. Still working on the lighting. It's a mixed community aquarium with a little of everything. I'm breaking some rules but that's what they are for

I will say that fish definitely behave differently when they have this much room. I will be posting more videos as the aquarium matures and as the livestock list expands.

Beast of a tank! With that sort of gallonage you could try breeding some stuff no one else thought possible. Granulosas would rock in a tank that size...

Looks like Tim went on DFWFishbox to get some clues

BallinxAlex about 5 people myself and another guy in the aquarium and 3 others on the outside. It was some heavy lifting but well worth it. I was trying to do my best to emulate the lake and go with a more natural look. It's about 2,000 lbs of Alabama Creek Rock.

Aggrofishkeeper It was built by Acrylic and Glass Exhibits in Dallas and it's 10' long by 4' wide by 34" tall. Ogrodii this aquarium is in my retail store. I think my wife would kill me if I tried to put it at home. Since I'm at the shop about 75 hours a week it's better this way

Filtration is 2 Fx5s in a closed loop and a 200 wet dry. I am hooking up a chemilizer this week in order to automate the water change process.

Lighting is 6 Ecoxotic Par38 bulbs in 20k. I will be adding some True Lumen Marine Fusion LEDs to try and balance out the color so I can take better photos and videos.

JHenry there are 9 Ilangi in there with more to come. I will probably put a male Bulu Pt Petro or a Longola but I won't go much further than that. I fought with the decision of going all Trophs and Petros but being in a retail store in a market that's not really favorable to those fish I decided to go with more of a community type setting.

The current stocklist is as follows:

                            C. Gibberosa "Moba" (11)
                            Gnathochromis Permaxillaris(3)
                            C. Microlepidotus "Kiriza"(14)
                            C. Leptosoma "Mpulungu"(25+)
                            Lepid. Nkambae(1)
                            Variabiliochromis Moori(pair)
                            L. Leleupi(5)
                            N. Buescheri Kachese(4-6)
                            E. Cyanostictus "Kigoma Orange"(pair)
                            J. Marlieri(6-8)
                            Daffodil "Kambwimba"(6-8)
                            Benthochromis Tricoti(1)
                            N. Tretocephalus(1)
                            Tropheus "Ilangi"(9)
                            Lepid. Meeli Kipili(4)
                            Altolamp. Compressiceps "Lufubu"(pair)

I am looking for some sub adult or adult Petricola, Multipunctatus and Granulosus. Also looking for single male Petros(I know someone down there has an extra male or two for a good cause :) ) Longola, Bulu Pt, Moshi,

I will update this thread as we add fish and get more videos. I'm really excited to see how this aquarium matures. It's been a dream to have my own monster Tanganyika tank and it's always nice having folks with the same passion that I do.

Thanks for all of the feedback and kind words.

                            Dane
