  • Petrochromis sp Blue Giant

Ever since I had that beast of male that came from Mike Bailey's colony, it has been a goal of mine to get a colony of them and finally they are in my hands. Big thanks to Rene of The Cichlids Place for making this happen. He managed to bring in some healthy fish. Timber317 and I made the trip to Austin this morning and got to Rene's place and after a nice chat and tour of his set-up, we got down to catching and bagging the fish starting around 12:30 pm and finally finishing around 4:30 pm. Got home around 7:30 pm or so and started to heat match the bags to the tank. No sooner I had finished the first and started the second, the fish from the first box were trying to tear through the bags trying to get into the tank. So I just helped them out and pretty soon, 23+1 BG were swimming around in my tank. The ratio is not exactly what I wanted at , but with these hard to come by types of fish you don't always get what you want sometimes. Along with the big male I got from thedude (thank you Steve) it comes out to 14m/10f.

After about an hour, I threw in some Ken's flakes and almost all of them went after it. A little while later I dropped in some New Era pellets and they were a little bashful at first but came around to slowly nibbling on them (see video below).

Over the next couple of weeks I will be treating them with anti-parasitic and anti-bacterial/fungal meds to really clear them out like I did with my T. Moliro colony recently. Then I can start feeding them like I really want to to fatten them up.

Anyhoo, video time! Here's them trying out New Era Green Pellets:

Yeah, but what can you do but feed them! LOL. I was also expecting bigger but this is what came in. I'm happy they are all eating! That's step no. 1 to getting giant GIANTS. Speaking of feeding, they just finished off a big chunk of frozen krill. Can't beat that with a stick if you ask me

Just a tad. TNT came and got the Polyodon Kitumbas and they would have been able to stay fin to fin with these guys, near term at least.

Sunny: I notice you have no rock or decorations of any sort in your tank, Is that temporary or like that all the time. It looks kind of Bare and boring. But it probably helps with keeping the aggression way down???? Just wondered why.It looks very nice otherwise.

You hit the nail on the head Thomas. Wanted to minimize aggression over the next few weeks, so I took them all out last night when I did water changes. Thanks for the kind words.
