  • Any previous D200 owners missing their D200 or am I just going crazy?

    Some background..

So I have owned three D200 in the past and then a couple each of D300, D700, a D3s and now a pair of D800.
So I have gone through a good set of Nikons..

But the one camera that I miss the most was my D200.
I don't know why I miss it, its somethig I just can't put my finger on.
I think the reason I miss it is because of its CCD sensor instead of CMOS sensor, but I am not sure.
I find that the D200 when shot at iso200 (its base iso) produces a unique image quality that I find hard to replicate in my other cameras.
Don't get me wrong, I love my D800s and their image quality is excellent, but there's something from the CCD sensor int eh D200 that I just can't put my finger on.

Matter of fact, I am actually looking for a low mileage D200 to add back to my kit.

I was wondering if any other previous D200 owner feels the same or am I just going crazy??

Some old shots from my D200 (nothing really special about the images, except for something with the color and metering I just can't put my finger on)

Who know's, maybe its all in my head and I am going crazy..

I still have mine LOL. And I don't think I will let it go even if I get the latest/greatest Nikon body.

Speaking of sensor, time for me to send it in for a cleaning.

Yeah Sunny, hold on to it. Its the last breed of CCD cameras which I prefer over CMOS. CMOS has that high iso capability, but at base iso, I still prefer CCD's over CMOS. I think this is also why all the Medium Format digital sensors are still CCD.

As for cleaning, you can clean it yourself. All you need is Eclipse Solution, Pec Pads and some swabs and you're good to go.
I usually do a wet cleaning after every major trip.

I'd appreciate it if you could show me how that's done one of these days.

BTW, should I get Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 swabs?

I don't buy the swabs since they are way over priced. I just cut the pec-pads and wrap them around q-tips to make my swabs..

Drop by and I'll show you how to do it amd clean your sensor as well.
