Hmmm, what are your parameters? Puffers are notoriously finicky when it comes to Nitrates. Ours will discolor and eventually become 'pouty' if her water is not to her liking. Any moves whatsoever will get them pissed at you, ours did not really settle in for 2 months. Any water changes will get them mad as well and take 3-4 hours to get them back in normal condition. My rough guess is that it is a combination of stress, possibly a higher then optimum Nitrate (think less then 20ppm and they truly love even lower numbers). It could be simply from a longer period of a water change schedule. The added Melafix should help, but time should heal it. Another possibility is that it had a different type of sand previously? even if it were the same, it could be getting used to the newer substrate. I would not overly worry much unless it continues to worsen. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

No sweat, feel free to shoot me any more questions and I'll be happy to help.
Also I vote for Ndugu for a name (from About Schmidt, hearing it in his voice is quite amusing)In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
