Vortex Diatom Filters?

I am looking for a Vortex filter but in my research online I'm finding almost NO ONE is selling them due to some manufactuer 'problems'. One website I contacted said they would personally not own one. Does anyone have a clue what's going on? These have been around for at least 40 years and the one I had back then was a dream to work with.

If there's a good reason not to buy one now, what would you recommend I use instead?
