You can buy these things at bait shops. Fishermen use them to catch bass.

your thinking of mudskippers or whatever.... the larval form of a salamander

this form is the adult form of the axolotl

Nope. I'm talking about the axolotl. I remember buying a few of these and keeping them for pets for a while. They were huge... at least 7-8 inches long. I think I bought them from a bait shop in Spring off the I-45N feeder road.

True axolotls retain their gills and tail fin as adults, unless their environment starts to dry up.
The critters you see at the bait stores, are larval Tiger Salamanders, which look very similar. These used to be sold in the LFS as "water dogs". These will lose their gills and tail fin and metamorphose into terrestrial salamanders.
Mudskippers are a completely different animal, an amphibious goby.

Either way, this is the creepiest thing I've seen for an aquarium since I first saw an Arowana. Does anyone on here keep these things???
                      If it ain't wild caught
                      You ain't doing it right

"while the most commonly accepted translation is "water-dog" (from "atl" for water, and "xolotl", which can also mean dog)."

                          EAT IT, nick!
