  • Tropheus sp.red "Kiku" with growth/tumor 1 year - dead today

This morning I found blow out girl in the place where all of my fish go when they are dying.
To ensure that that nothing would happen that could be released into the tank I decided to euthanize the fish as best as possible.
I put her on ice and pilled it on top of her.
She barely fought in the net and once on ice she stopped completely.
I am going to freeze her in hopes we find someone who can do an autopsy and find out what went wrong with her.

I wanted to share with my friends who know the history of this fish.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry. That makes me very sad. :( :(

And to think we were just talking about her last night. :(

Sorry, Jesper. :( But she put up the fight of the century. :)

            Thank you CF :)
Blow out girl was a Tropheus sp red "Kiku" female which had about a little more than a year ago developed an extended stomach which slowly over the year got bigger and bigger.. In the end I feel its what killed her.

To make her no more in pain I euthinized her by putting her on ice and freezing her.

I dont recall where my original post is with pictures, but there is one in here with pictures of her after about 6 months of having it.

It looks like she is carrying a ball inside of her stomach (side of her body)

I froze her so someone who is a fish scientist can now do an autopsy of her body so we would find out what the cause was..

WE had tried pretty much anything and everything to heal her and after 6 months of living I decided to return her with the colony where she was a part of it until this morning when I found her upside down and totally not with it anymore. I decided at this time to see if she would get any better and after a short while decided incase she did have something inside of her that was bad to remove her and euthinize her correctly.

I have enough Kiku left of the old guys and now enough F1's that come hopefully soon I can blend them together in a larger tank and have a nice size WC/F1 colony.

MB yeah I know we talked about her last night and I went to look at the tank last night when I came home and I saw her swimming around everyone like normal -- the tank is very dark at night, but if they swim to the glass I can see them easy.. she did so I know she was still good last night.

This morning when I got up around noon and looked inside is when I saw her upside down. At 2pm I had made up my mind now was the time to end this gently and properly.

              RIP

                RIP blow out girl.

For the record, you still haven't popped her?

I could do it if you want.

She was a good looking fish, but seeing that she lived the way she did, when the time came it was good to know that the end came quick and painless for her.
Now to find a marine biologist who would like to do a real autopsy on her to get the cause...
Thank you MB for posting the picture :)

After things get settled and organized here at our place, I will look back into my record book and I can tell you when she first got signs of this.

I think it may have been a year or more she was like that.

It really sucks to loose a fish, even one that was so unique
