I made the long trek from The Woodlands to Pearland to pick up some discus and it was really worth the trip. It is so nice to see a breeder with huge healthy breeders and beautiful babies. I purchased a few larger fish, at a great price, but his 2" Blue Diamonds were gorgeous too! Really a bargain for someone who wants to grow out some young ones!

Terry, thank you for your feedback. It's pleasure to deal with you.

I made corrections in original posting. Those I called cobalts actually are Blue Diamonds. Still have plenty. The best are being picked up. Anyone?

can those be housed in a community tank or just by themselves? are there certain fish they cannot get along with?

Discus are docile fish and you want to make sure that you keep them with fish that are docile too. Most people who keep discus with others, keep them with fish such as the small Tetra family of schooling fish, guppies, gourami's etc. Do NOT put them together with Angel's. The discus fish have to be the most aggressive fish in the tank, which is why its hard to put many other fish in there because they are that docile....
A Tall tank is also needed. You want to have a tank that is a minimum of 20" tall, 25 is better, 30 best. This does not stop you from putting them in smaller tanks, but when you put them in smaller tanks, make sure that you dont over load it with other fish, because again the discus is a fish that needs CLEAN PURE WATER all the time. Last but not the least.. Discus fish are WARM weathered fish. Most of the time you want to keep them in tanks that are min 84 max 88 with 86 being the perfect temp for them. Many fish DONT like that temp so research it well before you deside which way to go. This is one of the reasons that many discus owners dont put anyone else with them.

Not trying to start an argument with this but I have & still do keep discus with angels.
Angels are more aggressive then discus are. I have had discus pair up in a tank with angels in it & they are able to keep the angels atbay. Discus will become more aggressive at feeding time.

There seems to be two schools of thought on keeping discus with angels. Simplydiscus has lots of threads regarding it. My own discus wouldn't be near enough aggressive to take on angels at feeding time, but I know there are others that have had success keeping them together.

I have bad experience keeping discus with angels. Angels are eager eaters and need as much food as they can consume for 1-2 minutes once a day. Being carnivorous discus has short intestine, so it needs 2-3 feedings a day (for babies - up to 5-8 feedings). All this makes them incompatible in my opinion not mentioning that when angels spawn this is really stressful for all other aquaruim dwellers.

Also discus needs higher temperature, and highest temperature threshold for angels is barely lowest acceptable for discus.

Concludind I would not recommend to keep them together.
