  • Acclimating Wild Tropheus Colony - Tips

I'll be getting a colony of WC Trophs. This is my second time buying Wilds. Some of you know my first time ended up disastrous.

I'm getting 30 adults Trophs, they're going in a 100 gallon 5' tank. There're currently 4-5 juvie Eretmodus in there.

    Tank dimension is 60"x18"x22"
Filtration: DIY wet&dry (over 5 gallon of bioballs) with a 1200gph return pump.
                 Rena XP3
                 AquaClear 110

I need some tips on what work and what dont as far as acclimating, chemicals to add, feeding, etc...

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks !

i agree.  30 adults is too many for that tank.

        That's a lot of bio-load for a small un-established tank.

If it's too late, get used to doing at least 3 water changes a week with that bio load, until you can score yourself a larger tank. I believe Geoff is still looking to move his 125 after Oceanic sends him a new 150 for the 80th time...

Honkzz, do you have access to a bigger tank/stand? If not, what's you're back up plan?

Also, is that homemade wet/dry the one that was advertised here on the box a few weeks back?

the tank is established btw ... its running and still have fish in it.
I didnt think it was too small since EK's pulling 40+fish in a 125 ?   silly me

Jeebus, no I make my own W/D too

Well if anyone has a 125, 135, 150 gal tank only for sale and would deliver this week, let me know.
              the stand I'm using is a 72"x18"

                  Re: Tropheus Tips

I just move my tangs to the 125
Left some Eretmodus like 5 in the 100gal to keep the tank going

thats what I thought too. 100 gal isn't too bad.

Your best option is to move the ilangi juvis into the 5ft/100g and the newbs into the bigger tank.

But you guys have a lot of experience keeping trophs though. What size tank & number of trophs was your first colony?
