  • Bolivian Rams....

Hey everyone, after hiding from Ike, I went to HAW to see Dan for some fish.
He set me up with some Banded Cory's, 14 Cardinals and 2 Bolivian Ram  and some filter media to help seed the tank.
So far everything is great, the Cardinals look pretty, and the Cory's are playing in the water movement from the filter.
The only thing I don't get to see the rams to much, every time I come to view the tank, they take off for the back of the tank.
If I sit and watch, the rams come out to visit.
I only have two, one male and one female. would it help if i were to get some more rams so they can "hang out"

What size tank are you keeping them in ?
Are all the fish you listed above in the same tank ?
If they are and are in a tank like a 29g tank I would say you should keep it as is.
If they are in a 55g tank then I would say go get yourself another pair of dwarf cichlids that fancy you like, German Ram's or Apisto pair (you can get some nice ones at Dan's or other places if interested)
In a 29 the pair will rule the bottom when they breed, in a 55 they will take up about 50% of the tank.

so far they like to stay at the bottom with the Cory's (like there schooling together)
so far no one seems to be bothering anyone.

After a few feedings they will be right up front when you come around.

talking about feeding, that do the rams prefer to eat?  right now I have some tetra color flakes, some tropical crisps (haven't opened yet) and some algae cookies that the Cory's like.
I also have come cichlid granules. so far all I've tries were the tropical color flakes and algae cookies.

what about the freeze dried worm blocks that you can stick to the side of the tank?
I found some shrimp pellets, I'll try them tomorrow morning.
where is a good place to buy blood worms close to Katy area? are petsmart /petco OK to buy blood worms?
Anything i need to do to keep blood worms / frozen brine shrimp?

                  Re: Bolivian Rams....

Petco/petsmart sells frozen foods...  a freezer is all you need.  mine are wrapped in the news paper they wrap it in.. else wrap it in newspaper
I thaw them out before giving them to the my fish.  This way no one fish gets all the worms

                    Re: Bolivian Rams....

The best frozen bloodworm prices west of the city are HAW $8.99 and City Pets $9.99 for a 16oz flat. If you are on the east side check with Walter (GVCDiscus) he has sold me 16oz flats for $10.
