    Re: Bolivian Rams

First I would give it about 2 weeks for the fish to settle in and be less spoked.. when they are happy in their new tanks males will have a little more color than the females.  When young they are hard to see which one is a male and which one is a female.  When they grow a little older you will notice  that males are a little slimmer than females, and the males also have extensions on the upper and inner rays of the dorsal and caudal fins. Another difference is the dorsal on the males is more pointed and elongated. They are more difficult to sex than their close relative the German Ram.

From the pictures it looks like you have 1m / 3f (top pic males/bottom pic females) but this is just a guess.

Yeah...really hard to tell at that size.  You will know for sure when they get a little more settled in.  But like Zulaab said, you male will have much more flowing fins...dorsal will flow into a long point at the back.  I found that the females stay a little smaller in overall size as well.  Males will definitely color up more as well.  I had two pairs so it was real easy to see because males would have stand-offs and show off their plumage..lol.

In general, sicklid males have more color, larger size, more finnage and elongated points on the tips of their fins.

The 3 sure look like females.

The larger one I'd guess is a male but you really need a better profile shot to see if his fins come to a point.

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

The largest one of the 4 has elongated points on "his" fins.

The other 3 all look alike, but are alot smaller than him.
