  • My Blue Rainbow

Last couple months I sold to my friend in Dallas a part of my WC Blue Rainbow and 40 F1. I only keep 18 WC (4.5 inch +) and they start breed again after 2 months break. I have 24 fry f1 in 3 week from 3 females. One thing I don't know why they just give me 8 each time why don't have more than 8 ( you think they need more protein )
last night I trip out another female I got 8 again that kind funny 8. I still have another two holding wait for next week and if both of them have 8 fry and I will call them Blue Rainbow 8.

          Nice!

My old BR group bred about the same.

Females only held 6-8 fry each time.

I think moori sp hold less compare to brichcardis bc of the fry's coloration.

The black and white pattern doesn't stand out as much as the orange/yellow.

My last three Nkonde females gave me 8, 9 and 12. One fry died on delivery. I think has a lot to do with feeding and how dominant the breeding male is. He's able to fertilize more eggs if he spend less time having to chase away other fish from his space.

              Agreed, those are factors.

But I still haven't seen a moori put out 30+ fry like some Brichardi females.

I assume it also helps that brichcardis tend to be bigger too.

That's true. I've known a couple of Moorii that had 20+ fry power spawn on a regular basis.

I'm stripping 3 or more females next weekend. I'll report back on that

Brichardi are freaks. My red rainbow give me 4-6 consistently. Surprisingly last week I got 13 fully developed fry from one female but that's an exception. I've had several groups of brichardi and they are great producers.
