  • 72 Bow First SW Tank

So im getting into saltwater and is what i have done in the last two weeks. honestly i don't know much about saltwater but i have the tank setup and going. feet are in the water. wanting to put my first fish in but i don't know when i will be done cycling. so my setup is as follows: 72g bowfront, t5 lights, sump, skimmer, about 50lbs live sand, about 40lbs live rock, about 75lbs dried rock. so here are some pics.

also i have some unidentified growth in my tanks, maybe someone can tell me what they are.

this one is orange with a green hugh to it and kinda looks like a zoa. it has a stem and maybe a mouth in the middle and has a stem. pics are hard to take due to location of the ????

there are three of these growing in the tank. two are roundish and one is like a carpet. the two round ones are very thin and the carpet one is darker in color. they are all bright orange with bright green freckles.

the last thing i have growing is some kind of hard pink coral, so here are the pics

like i said i don't know what these are, any help would be appreciated

+1 IMO you need more LR. I have almost 40lbs in a 28G. You need at least 1lb per gallon and I would actually say 1.5lbs per gallon. It will help make the tank more stable. Also I would let it cycle for about 2-3 weeks before adding CUC. Then 2-3 weeks before adding fish. Is this a FOWLR tank?

alot of the rock is light in weight, so very porus, but if i put anymore i don't think there will be any room for fish to swim and stuff to grow.

sounds good but some corals and fishes can never be in the same tank together. just make sure you do the research....
zoas are cool...some of them are super good color but at the same time they are expensive...i saw some that goes for 50-70 per poly...but they sure do look nice tho...

                    Good looking tank.
If all of your rocks are porous then I think you are ok.
Just be patient, wait for the tank to cycle. Check the parameters every couple of days. Do research on the fish you want.
If you want corals, your fish choice will be limited. Your first fish should probably be some chromis or clownfish. Some clownfish are more aggressive than others so depend on what you will stock later, choose the appropriate kind. Some people put in damsels first because they can survive a new tank the best but they are aggressive. Many people have to get them out later and it is not easy to do.

115lbs of rock should be enough...good start. now its time to play the waiting game.

i will probably put watermelon and dragon's eye in first cause there is some in houston selling it but just stuff with bright wild colors. reguardless of price if they are just regular nothing special, then they will not get in my tank. i also want a long hair anemone.
