  • H to the Ermie

Here are a few snapshots of Herman. I took them as I was getting ready for work this morning soooo....I apologize ahead of time for the dirty glass.
I'll take better ones when I have a chance.

He is TOO cute!! He looks like he's sticking out his bottom lip in the first pic. )

About the demon fuzz...is it only on the driftwood? Is it NEW driftwood? Is it slimy? If you said yes to these questions, it's probably a fungus that is fairly common on new driftwood. Supposedly not harmful to fish, just gross to look at. I recently added some new driftwood to one of our tanks, and a couple days later, it was covered in this whitish, slimey muck. I panicked, pulled it out and started looking around online for an explanation. Apparently, there is a fungus that can show up on driftwood when you submerge it after it's dried out. And when there are still tannins and stuff leaching out of it. It's the same fungus that grows on food or dead fish if left in a tank. I'd never seen it before and it freaked me out so I have the wood soaking outside the tank for now.

Thank you for the Herman-related compliments.
As far as the driftwood goes....it's not new! I've had it in my tank since David and I have been together (it's actually how we met).
Anyways, that's 2 and 1/2 years ago....I can't explain what it is or why it's there. I haven't dried it or messed with it really. I just hate the fuzz.

No he won't die that quick, but yes he has ip's. Most puffer's do.
Right now feed him as much as he wants to eat without exploding. Once David picks up the gel-tek you can soak it in freeze dried krill. It soaks the stuff up like a sponge. Then you feed him twice a day for 5 days (with medicated soaked food). After that watch his pooh, it will be white, stringy and mucesy for a couple days during and after treatment. This means he's passing the dead worms. After a few days his pooh will be black, that's what I call good pooh. I would feed him two small portions twice a day until his pooh is black again. You want him to pass all the dead worms before it can cause a secondary bacteria infection. You and Herman are going to be fine, I've been through this with 3 different types of worms. I cried, freaked, cried and freaked again. I'm here for you!
