  • A post of desperation...(Dallas)

I thought I'd post this here in addition to the one I already made on the Dallas site, since I would be easily willing to drive down to Houston

I have been wanting a large widebar or indonesian datnoid for at least the past two years.

Long distance opportunities come up every once in a while but things always fall through, and their spines make them a risky fish to ship. I've had a small one for about a year now and its growth has been beyond slow.

If ANYONE can help me find one in the area it would be greatly appreciated. I know that at least a few hobbyists in the area have them via anecdotal evidence from LFS employees, but they just don't show up often.

I'm about ready to give up trying to get my dream fish, but I figured I would try one more desperate post.

Im kind new to fish, so i have no idea what kinda fish this is. I googled an image thats about it.

Why is this your dream fish? What is so special about it? What about the spines?

GL on the search, i drove more than a hr. to get a pleco i wanted. Crazy stuff.

The appeal to me because of their striking coloration, personality, shape, and size. Have a look at these videos and maybe you'll see what I mean.

There was a Datnoid at the old Fish Ranch II about 3 weeks ago, I think.  We saw it, and thought it was pretty interesting, so we posted here asking if anyone had experience with them, but I don't think we got much of a response.  I have no idea if they still have it, but maybe give them a call.  It was a gorgeous fish.

I would say around 8"-9".  It was pretty large, but not HUGE.

Fish Gallery has Golden Tiger Datnoids.  They are about 3" right now.  We just got 3 today.  They look really good, no damaged fins, good color, and already eating.
