  • Who has the best Live Rock?

Doing some research for a future project. Who in town, business or HFB'r carries the best looking live rock? I really like the purple live rock. I'm planning on attempting an 8gal nano. Ill be asking more & more questions in the coming months.

As of now my equipment list includes:
    8gal rimless,
    AC70 that I'm modding into a fuge,
    LED fuge light
Odyssea 12" 24w pll fixture two color spectrums ( need some opinions on this...)
    50w aqueon heater
    Koralia nano 240

How long should I have my sand & live rock going before attempting to add any livestock?

Thanks in advance guys & gals.

With such a small tank, shape of the rock is more important than type.

    Personally, I like BRS rocks.

Cycle time is normally a month. Test the water to be sure and your good to go, Rob.

BRS= bulk reef supply? Ill check them out.

As far as equipment, is there anything else I should be on the lookout for?

The main thing I would be looking at is to upgrade the light.

Whats the dimension of your 8g?

          I would go LED.

Can I add sand to the tank and LR rubble to my AC fuge to start the cycling process? Then when I find the appropirate show pieces ill add those.

              Dimensions are: 12"x12"x14".

Yeah, LEDs would make a nice upgrade. I was already thinking about those. Do you have any suggestions on a fixture?

Or what about one of the 70MH like sunny was selling? Suspended like 8'-10' above?

You can start the cycle that way. But once you add your main show piece rock there will most likely be a mini cycle that last a week or two. Again, only way to be sure is using a test kit.

You can use MH for sure. It's just going to get hot so you'll need to find a way to cool the tank. I think hanging the light that high up will cause your PAR to be too low.

Lol, I suggest any LED fixture over $500 bucks. Maxspect, AI, or radion. For something cheap look into PAR30 or PAR36 LED bulbs. I actually have two boost PAR30s as my back up lights and like them a bunch. Brian (darbex) is using them now. Maybe he will comment on how he likes/dislikes them.

Lol, that's not good. Normally means it needs super clean water too!

Nahh, you don't need a canister.

Actually, all you need is a power head and some live rock.

The flow from your power head and the HOB is all you need. If anything that might be too much flow for an 8g.

For saltwater, canisters are nitrate factories (unless you clean them every other day). You don't want nitrate factories for corals..
