It has two bio wheels in the sump with a 1000 watt heater, uv light built in and a iwaki md70rlt for return pump. I think this is an old fish tank for a store. So my question is can I make this a reef tank since its a long and low tank or am I better off using this as a freshwater tank? I still have a few things I want to do before setting this aquarium up, like switching the return pump to a md55rlt, or trying to find a posidon pump that makes no noise since this will be in my living room. Looking forward to all comments thanks.

Don't see why it couldn't be a salty tank...

This only problem I am having is finding a reef light that is 84" long I found them 72" long. Could I make 72" work? I was thinking a 72" T5 12x54w.

+1, two 36" lights will work nicely.

I just left the house but will post them as soon as I get home. How many bulbs should I use for the 36"?

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336146233.776264.jpgHere is one pic I have on my phone that you can kind of see the overflow. It's a weird design but it might work. I want to build a box around the pipes to hide them and make it look more like a traditional overflow.

Depends on what you are going to keep in the tank.

A little bit of everything. The ones that required more lights I can put towards the tops the ones that required less I can put towards the bottom.

You can make virtually any tank a SW tank with a little cash to convert it. I would ditch those overflow and if possible I would install a overflow box around it. 72" light will work it will just be darker on the sides or you can go with two 36" and spread them apart or a 48" + 36".

Don't know what lights you will need for corals. One of the salty guys will tell you what you need..
