  • Low temp "tropicals"

In Huntsville , I have an 800 gal; 36" deep. I have kept swordtails and danios for 3+ yrs by putting on foam sheet , and ,ocassionally 200 watts. This year we netted out a few hundred tropicals and did nothing to protect the pond .I expected to have only Koi in the spring. BUT, just looked with a flashlight and saw 20+ swords (in one spot), I don't think there were danios. I haven't measured temps , but I guess it got close to 40F !!!
Maybe I can sell "cold acclimated" green swords at a premium $ ?
Right now ( Jan 14) it is 48F.

That is cool. Is pond above or below ground?

There are green swords that live in the upper trinity river. They are pretty hardy when it comes to temps.
