Since you mentioned cichlids, I think this tank would make an awesome discus setup because of the height.

I have had many tanks and lots of fish but never Discus. I know nothing about them other than what they look like. The guy I got the tank from had Discus.

This project had been put on hold due to my work on "Project Mouse Trap". Now that the Mouse Trap is up and running, I will be working on "Project Pescado" again. Stand work will begin this coming week. I am thinking about making this tank an angelfish/ community tank, since my other tank is African Chiclids.

Back at it. i have wrapped up the build portion of my other project (Mouse Trap) and am now working on Pescado. This weekend I built the frame work for the stand. I am planning o make this a large two panel opening front with matching hood. Very clean lines when I finish, no handles or trim. Modern look.

Well, after some thinking i am going to rebuild this stand. I think it is a little to high and i want to open the center up so a wet/dry can be put in if I later decide. My trim wood had been ordered and should be drop shipped to my house (free from a builder friend) this week. 3/4 stain grade birch.

My wife has also decided that she wants Discus and Angel community tank. now I just have to figure out how to safely make this happen.

I have a 100gal with near the same demension as your's. You said you were going to rebuild the stand because it was too tall. I'm curious as to why it's too tall. I'm wanting a tall stand for mine for appearance. My house has 20' plus ceilings. I understand the taller it is, the harder it is to clean and maintain. I guess that i'm more concerned about it being too top heavy. Anyway, enough with my problems. Just wondering why your going shorter.

I am going about 5 inches shorter. It is at 40 high right now. It is good, but I am looking up at the water surface and want to water surface to be at eye level. I was also going to need a stool just to feed and do regular maintenance. Just thought 35-36 inch high would be good. If you want the stand I may work something out with you. Will need wood on the outside to finish it.

There are a few fish/set ups that I would research the heck out of before getting into so that you have the best chance to succeed and discus are one of them. Discus are very picky about a lot of things. I dont mean this to steer you away from it just dont want you to get fustrated early because of difficulties.

Oh, sorry Freespool. I wasn't asking for the stand. Just wondering why you were going shorter. 40" would put me at 68" overall. That's about what I was looking at. Add canopy to that. Definately gonna need the step stool. Good job so far.
