  • 160g Discus Journal

So, my wife and I have decided to start a Discus tank. So far, we have a 160g tank that we picked up a few nights ago. The stand needs some cosmetic work but its a really nice tank. We picked up some very tiny Discus today from a really nice guy here on the box. We also picked up an FX 5 from Miguel. We plan on using a white substrate (not argonite) and some really nice grey rocks (not river rocks) and a few peices of driftwood (not the heavy ***** on slate).

The Discus that we chose were 9 Leopard Snakeskin and 5 Leopards. Right now they are about the size of your thumb nail and are currently being held in a barebottom 55g. I've got an Aquaclear 110 for filtration.

My wife and I are excited about starting a journal together (even though she wanted to post it under HER name LOL) and we are looking forward to growing these fish out together. Even though I'll be doing 90% of the physical labor on this tank, she is eager to learn how everything works so that she will be able to care for the fish on her own. (she wants me to point out...she's NOT an idiot)

Anyway, this is our joural...we'll post pics as soon as we get a chance. Peace

    That's messed up!

You should have let her start the thread in her name.

She got to work on her post count too!

Yeah, we had originally planned on putting Tropheus Musanga's in this tank but the price wasnt right so we missed out this time around. I've been saying for a year now that i really wanted to do a sick Discus tank, so here's my chance (er...OUR chance).

They are so small right now, most of them dont even have any color to them yet. I'm trying to get the water temperature at a stable 82 degrees. Once I do that, I'll take some pics and maybe they'll look a little better.

You want to keep them at a higher temp especially since they are fry/juvies. I keep my adults at 84

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? right now I've had the tank at a stable 84.5 degrees. I also have some baby koi angels in the tank. will they be ok in this high temp water? Me and my wife will post some pics of the babies when she gets home from work.
