  • Cloudy glass on old 110

I read the threads on how to clean the "cloud" off the inside of the glass on older tanks.....I used the vinegar and let sit/soak and razor blaade technique for hours and still have a slight haze on glass.

What is my next option? Muratic acid? Will muratic acid work? Any other suggestions?

Muratic acid is what I use. Do it out side it off gases some nasty vapors. Add a whole gallon after you fill tank with water. Put a small pump in tank for circulation. Let it soak for 1 week. water change 3 time and you should be good to go.

I have always wondered if muratic acid would damage the silicone.

Thanks John, downsized my tank collection. I now have 5 tanks setup.

Geoff I lost all the Ujiji one night after adding a piece of foam to use as a pre-filter on my pump. I made the mistake of not rinsing the foam pad before using it. I was devastated because they were coloring up really nice after being in the pond for months. I would definitely use the pond again next summer to grow out tropheus.

Okay, going to try Muriatic acid technique. I say that someone said it will not hurt the silicone-anyone know what it might do to the black plastic overflows?

100 to 1 dilution will not hurt the acrylic over flows either.

Muriatic is not so clean/commercial hydrochloric; the vapors are "pure" hydrochloric acid. It is also lower concentration than hydrochloric, but I don't have hard numbers.
For the temperatures/concentrations/times likely to be used here , it will not affect silicone, or most other polymers.
Vinegar is 6% acetic (as it says on the bottle).
I have some film on the outside of a 55 (was salt tank) that I can't get clean. I am just thinking it may be calcium sulfate/gypsum/plaster of paris, which is very resistant to acids.
Formic acid and hydro fluoric will get gyp, but where to get them; anyone work in a lab ??
