  • Discus Fry Timeline

Well.. I meant to do this earlier, but better late than never.
    Here's my latest spawn.

3rd day after eggs are laid... wigglers...
Dad moved fry to his corner and stuck them to the glass.
    Lights are on 24/7.

By Day 6, we have free swimmers.
By Day 8, they are all attached to the parents.
Water level lowered for ease of attachment & ease of feeding BBS.
Mom & Dad separated by egg crate because mom was beating the hell out of dad. Dad seems to be a better parent than mom.

Day 14. Growth is quite noticeable. Start feeding BBS.
Parents try to attack the turkey baster when i try to squirt BBS to parents side.

    Day 15.
I get a pic of Mom shaking off the fry off her back and handing them off to dad through the egg crate.

Day 17. Much much larger now....And are starting to eating off the floor.
Eating BBS well. Start to add crushed tetrabits to the BBS and squirt it at the fry. They eat the BBS in the water column, and pick at the tetrabits on the floor. They spit out the tetrabits but will eventually eat it. I'm starting to add frozen frozen daphnia magna in anticipation of the day the fry outgrow BBS but still can see the larger daphnia.

About day 30. Fry are starting to get too big for the BBS. Now solely eating frozen daphnia & crushed pellets. Pellets are allowed to remain in the tank floor for two hours or so. Usually eventually gets eaten. The leftovers are siphoned out.
Fry are removed and given their own 20 gal tank. Soon to be moved to 75 gal. 50% water changes daily.
Slowly weaning off frozen daphnia. Starting to add chopped frozen bloodworms. Fry are picking at bloodworms.

more to come if anyone is interested.

Man Nacra the discus and rams must love it up in those towers you get your guys to breed. Do you play Barry Manilow 24/7 or what?

Awesome pics, man. I need you to get your male to talk to my male turq. He and his mate have spawned a dozen times and the male seems to think it's his personal snack...grrrr.
