  • proper care of a figure 8 puffer

ok, dumb idea here. purchased a fish i knew nothing about becaue it was cute. now i'm attached.

i'm clearing out a 29 for it, as he is only 2 inches long maximum.

looking for the inns and outs of puffer care. what they eat, water needs, etc. any pointers? he will be alone in this tank. I knew i'm supposed to turn them brackish. do i need sea mix for that? what specific gravity is best? etc.

    thanks guys!

Marine salt mix is what you need, yes. A good specific gravity for brackish is 0.015.

This page has some good info:

There are numerous links on the top of the page, as well, for more info on the Figure 8s. :)

I didn't change mine over to brackish and they're doing fine. :)
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

I had a Figure 8 for a couple of years. Always kept him in brackish water. I would feed him bloodworms, snails I got at Ptesmart and would buy him ghost shrimp at Aquarium World. He was a great little fish. They have a great little personality. Mine lived in a 10 gallon by himself becasue he was not very friendly with his tank mates. I gave him to a friend after a few years becasue I got tires trying to control the algae in his tank. Since he ate any form of algaea control, I was it.
