So, I stopped by City Pets on my way home from work today and they had 4 SAPs in with some GSPs. They could see I had "sucker" written on my forehead so I took them home. I am not looking forward to the first time I have to clip their teeth, EEK!

When the time comes, we can do it together. I've got all the equipment, so we'll just make a day of it.

Not big into puffers but why do you have to cut their teeth?

You know I'm going to take you up on that offer! I'm very squeamish :(

With South American puffers their teeth grow faster than they can be ground down by snails, mollusks, shellfish, etc so every so often you have to trim them. Otherwise they grow to a point where the fish can no longer eat.

They eat a lot of snails and other hard shelled food that grind down their teeth. In the aquarium world its hard to give them enough hard shelled foods to grind their teeth far enough down.

MTS are a "no-no" for puffers. It will often break their teeth. If I thought they could eat them I'd put them in my discus tank since the zebra loaches have decided beefheart is much more tasty than MTS.

The problem with MTS is they have REALLY hard shells.. good for adults, but for the younger generation, they need something with a more weak shell.. the worst that can happen is that the teeth breaks.. because if they do there is a good chance you are going to end up with infected gums.. and that I have been told is not a funny thing at all.

Okay, you can be in charge of equipment prep, and reviving. I'll do the anesthesia and clipping. So between your 4, and my ~18 (yes, I too am a sucker), we should be pros when it's over. )
