    will this work? its a 4" x 36" pvc pipe filled with activated carbon. i will use fliter media bags on each end and the cap it off with a pvc cap that converts to a standard threaded end. i also plan on adding a shut valve on one end.

    It should work.. Problem is that water might not have enough time to interact with the carbon and then you will not get 100% removal of the "bad" things in the water.
    This is why the snake is so much easier, because the water has to travel 15ft of carbon before it get out.

      that will work. Try it you can always make another. I've made 8 different ones. maybe put a couple of 90's on one end so you can hang it on the tank like darbex's. you could make 2 one on each end of the hose. or the first one could be pool filter sand for a pre filter. you will want to get a chlorine test so you have confidence in it.
