  • Elvis is back home

After months of hypo and slowly raising his sg he is back up to full marine. My aquascaping skill's are really bad so please don't bash the look of my tank.) I made him a huge cave out of a terra cotta pot. It seems that everytime I get a cave that's big enough for him he outgrows it in just a few months. Then I have to rearrange everything and try to make a larger cave. I have finally got to the point that I don't have any rocks large enough to make him a sturdy cave so I had to use the pot. It may not look great but he loves it! You can really see it in the picture but when you are in front of the tank it doesn't seem that obvious. Anyway enjoy.

In the picture below, I was trying to get Elvis to show me his teeth. Well he does what he wants to do and not what I want him to do. So with a little coaxing and his cup with a mussel inside ), I got him to do what I wanted. He was so intrested in that mussel I almost didn't get the picture. My hubby was laughing at me because I was laughing so hard at Elvis. Anyway how's this for a close up?

I think I'll be using this one for next months entry:

Entry #10 ran a close 2nd, but I can honestly say that Elvis' pic was my fav. He's just so expressive! I voted for Elvis fair and square.

Elvis said : Thank you , Thank you very much.....in his best Elvis impersantion voice.

If Elvis wasn't so darn good looking, I would have voted for Jamie Foxx also. But don't tell Elvis.

Does Elvis as a puffer like the heavy rock work ? I would think he/she would be more happy with a more open landscape ? I understand the need for rocks in a fowlr tank, but maybe putting more rocks in the wet/dry sump to leave more space open for the guy.. To me he seems a little "cramped" in the tank but then again I am no saltwater expert at all. Just wondering more than anything else.

I thought about that many times also. But everyone has always told me I needed 1-1.5 lbs per gallon. The larger he grows the more rock I take out. I thought about getting a 200-300 gallon tank for him and not add any more rock. The larger tank is on the back burner for now. Or at least until he grows another 4-5 inches. He might look a little cramped in there but he has plenty of room to turn around at the bottom in front of the rock. And lot's of room above the rock. The tank is pretty wide. I also thought about putting some rock in the sump but with the protein skimmer, pump, heater and socks I don't have much room in there either. I might be able to get some of the smaller pieces into the sump, I don't know if that would make much of a difference. I actually worked on the tank for about 3 weeks before I got it just right, then we went into hypo :furious:. I'm sure it's going to take me a long time to get it right again.

Here's a couple of side views. Maybe that will help with the visual:

                              And Elvis in his cave:

And just in case you are wondering how big the cave is, here's a picture of the rest of the pot next to a small toyota trucks wheel:

                              Next to a brick wall:

I took the pot, broke it in half, and that's about 3/4 of the broken half.

And here is Elvis in his cave before I decorated it with lr.

Btw: I got a chance to measure Elvis and he's about 11" nose to tail.
