i have my flowerhorn in a 20 gallon now and plan to move him to a 50 gallon tank. i was wondering what kind of setup would go nice with my flowerhorn? rocks? plants? of course gravel but i wanna make it nice since i have the tank in my bedroom. any ideas people?

I dont keep flowerhorns but dont they like to move the substrate a lot? This would be kind of counter to being able to make it "nice" since no plants fake or not will stick. The ones I see are either substrate only or with large rocks.

Use a medium rounded pebbles as substrate so the fish will not get cuts in his/her mouth. Then if you are looking to breed the fish you will need to make a cave small enough the female can get into it (sideways) and the male cannot. This will give the female a place to hide if he starts chasing her. Plastic plants but expect them to be ripped out of the substrate if the male or female does not like it where its sitting.

I used Pool Filtered Sand for my substrate. Then i used a few big rocks and a few artificial plants. My Flowerhorn dug up the plants a few times but then i got smart and hooked them into the egg crate under the sand. Good luck with the setup. Take lots of pics.

The other thing you can do is surround the plants with large rocks that cant be moved and the plants wont ever move. I learned that lesson with my Africans I used to have. I was able to grow annubias with Mbunas that way.
