I picked up a group of crystal red shrimp about 5 weeks ago.  I have had berried females a couple of times but I only have 1 shrimplet.

Is it common for shrimps to produce non-viable eggs.  Is there something I need to do to increase production?

Yeah.. sometimes that happens.. especially in a new tank.
established tanks have microflora and bacteria all over for small shrimplets to graze on, so mortality from starvation tends to be a little less.

Look out for hydra. If some hitchiked in your plants, these can eat shrimplets as well.

    What are your water parameters?
I find that higher pH sometimes causes a higher mortality rate for CRS shrimplets.

      Filter intake?
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks!

          Tank Setup
          Size: 10g
          Ammonia: 0
          Nitrite: 0
          Nitrate: 10
          kh:2
          gh:2
          Temp: 72
          Ph: 6.8
          Substrate: Pool Filter Sand
          Filter: Sponge Filter
          4 Silk Plants
          No other tank inhabitants.

So it sounds like maybe they are hatching and I am not seeing them and they are starving :(
