  • Pick a snail...any snail...

Okay guys, I think I need a friggin' snail. I don't like them and they creep me out, but boy do they keep the tank clean.
So, I'd appreciate your input on which snail I should add to my tank.

I don't want a million snails....so, one that doesn't make a million babies is preferable.
    Thanks in advance guys.

for algae - probably nerites are the best choice and also they don't reproduce in the aquarium

i also like the generic pond snail - they will reproduce in the tank, but not as bad as the mts, but i also like them because they give you a gauge of if you are overfeeding your fish etc and of course eat all leftover stuff
      65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
      30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

      live and let live

I would second the vote for Olive nerites.  They are great algae eaters, can't produce viable eggs in freshwater and are pretty good about keeping out of the mouths of hungry fish.

You couldn't pay me to put mts or pond snails in my tank.  I go through great lengths to avoid these to terrors.

I'm going to call that number and say I saw one in Lexi's tank.
