  • HELP!!!!! 100 gallon in 2nd story apt??

Okay, I'm setting up my 100 gallon in my new apt/loft in Galveston.
Safe to say, I'm scared "poop-less" that it's going to fall through to floor.
I have it on one of the outermost load bearing walls and I bought renters insurance...
    Should I still be worried?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

    Best,
    Alexa

Your Refrigerator weights more per square inch than your 100g.. so unless you are scared its going through the floor too... I would not worry.   If you can find out which way your floor joist run then set the tank above as many as you can.  If not then most likely they run with the length of the building (ie left to right)

man that would suck to have a crash through the floor.  and i dont know about the whole refrigerator weighing more.  most refrigerators only weigh around 300 pounds.  where as  a 100 gallon aquarium weighs over 1000 pounds.

jetchanic - read the above post carefully. Zulaab said that a refrigerator weighs more per square foot.

alexarae - after talking with both Aquatic Environments and ADG, I felt comfortable enough to put my aquarium on the second floor. They do it with aquariums up to 400 gallons! An aquarium that has all its weight divided on four small posts will run a greater risk of falling through than an aquarium that has its weight spread out across a 2 by 4 for example.

Thanks Tim (and all that replied). I feel a little better. (:
I just filled her u with water and I remembered why I love this hobby so much.
Now, I just have to decide what fish to fill it with.

What are you interested in filling it up with ?
I am sure that you can get a ton of suggestions if you give a lake or river you like :)

yea i read the post carefully i didn't just say that for the hell of it not trying to be a **** just not an accurate statement.  a refrigerator weighing 300 pounds being 35" wide x 34" deep is about 3 pounds per square foot.  a 100 gallon aquarium weighing about 1000 pounds being 72" long x 18" deep is about 9 pounds per square foot.
