Re: 2250
The pump on a 2250 is rated for 364gph... the 2217 has a pump running at 264gph.
The 2250 comes with double the bio load capability of the 2217 giving it effective load of about 160g tank. Two of them would handle the load of 300g tank. Now where it hurts and why I think somewhat the same as others, is the water turn over. At only 700gph (for 2) it would handle in a tropheus tank only about a 100g size.. (with 2 of them) but because you can handle a higher bioload, adding some power heads to get the water movement you need, you can run on those two pumps in a 210. If you add a 2262 and run the 2250 will give you 900+365gph = 1265... your doing a 6x turn over. You will still need a power head.
Or add a wet/dry for the heavy o2 you want in a tropheus / Petro tank. Running a wet dry with a 2250 would be a pure dream on that 150.
Again this is what I think personally

Re: 2250
Powerheads in the tank. This will get the surface to move a lot more. I have seen first hand what the difference between running a wet/dry and not running one when it comes to amount of o2.
I have a 70g tank which I have had to add an air pump to the tank running already an Aquaclear 50 and a Eheim 2215 for filtration. A total of 9 fish (all mid sized haps) in this tank, and without the air pump they will look like they are suffocating. (I will be adding a power head to this tank and removing the airpump as I dont like the way it looks right now but that is another story) Most of the fish will hang at the top of the tank at night.. only coming down during the day. Btw this tank is the tank that has what looks like the most crystal clear water in it over all.
I have a 75 with a Pro/clear 75 wet/dry and a powerhead on the tank. They all hang everywhere in the tank all day long. You can see the better o2 in that tank. The powerhead adds movement in the tank.. that is all it does. The Pro/clear running with a Mag 5 pump does all the bioload / cleaning.
Tattoo.. if there is any way I could convince you to go with a wet/dry I will be more than happy to show you what I have etc.. and you can see the difference.
Add a fshfrk setup or if you want to spend the money a pro/clear 300 with a mag 12 pump with a split return. Your Tropheus will love you forever for it.

Re: 2250
can i just add a bunch of powerheads... to solve the o2 problem,,,,, that being the lack of o2.. i would rather not us a wet/dry filter... but if there is no other way to solve the 02 problem i will have to rethink a tropheus tank....210 gallon tank...empty.....wait till you see what is coming

Re: 2250
Can I ask why you dont like a wet/dry ?
Reason I am asking is because after I have worked with it for a while now I find it actually the easiest filter to work on and the only thing I have to remember is just some VERY simple rules once its up and running.
Now I will say this. I learned from Mike (of Mike's Trophical Fish and Pets) and he does things a little different but in the end I am now starting to understand why.
1. Overflow box. No sponges in the overflow box. It allows the water from the tank to go directly to the filter pad. If you have fry that ends up in your filter they are swimming on the pad the next time you see them. (dump them in the wet/dry sump until the next time you clean it. There is plenty of nutrition for them down there for the first two weeks of their lives.
2. Because of this you will need to clean your filter pad EVERY week. Else your filter pad will end up really dirty.. nothing else.
3. On the pump put the sponge on the pump (Fry will not be returned violently to the tank)
I have right now Red Rubensens Fry living in my sump.. because they made it there. They are growing and next weekend when I do my water change I will fish them out and put them in a grow out tank.
I am doing major re-arragements of my tanks this coming weekend so lots of interesting things will happen :)

Re: 2250
The bio surface is extremly large, the overlow not only cleans water surface scum but breaks water surface which increases the gas exchange, then there's the trickling of water over the drip tray as well as tons of bio-balls.
What that means is a lot more water is exposed to air which greatly increases the gas exchange between water and o2.700g Mini-Monster tank

Re: 2250
Wet/Dry is prolly more desireable for various reasons, but don't change your plans because you don't want to use a one.
For example, Geoff doesn't use wet/dry filters on any of his tanks. He is strictly canisters and HOBs. You can have successful Tropheus Tanks, just make sure to have some water movement.
Your setup looked good when I saw it last night. I would use two powerheads instead of one.
My two cents.Raul
