This may sound stupid, but I am totally new to keeping crays.  I saw a baby one (maybe 1.5 - 2" long) at a fish store, and bought it, but I can't put it in with my grown one, right?

So I have a Critter keeper- but only minimal filtration, no thermometer.

I also have a 1 gallon but it was treated with binox 3 days ago, and I am not sure if binox will harm crawfish.  Does anyone know?

    Re: question

There is always a chance that one will kill another, especially after molting.  Plenty of hiding spaces helps.

    Define minimal filtration?

I do not know myself the effects of Binox.

      Re: question

one of those plastic cages with sponge on the bottom and charcoal on the top.  The 1 gallon has an undergravel filter (and I do frequent water changes anyways...) but I am worried about potential binox issues.  If the little filter won't work, I will put him in with my tetras.  It is tiny - the length of my thumb from the tip of his tail to the tip of his antennae.

        Re: question

The charcoal -- if still active will remove binox from the system pretty quick.
I dont believe Binox has any damaging effects on inverts.. but more research will be needed.

Thanks, the charcoal is in a different tank from the one with binox, but I could fix that easy :)

Any ideas where I could do some more research on the effects of binox on inverts?

              Re: question

I had one of those little triangle shaped 1 gallon wal-mart tanks at work for over a year.  It came with a undergravel filter (ugf) and air pump.  I did 50% water changes every week on it, and started with about 8 infant crays (by infant, I mean smaller than 1/4" long), some tadpoles, and a half dozen or so guppy fry.  As they grew I took them home to the guppy or cray pond, except for the tadpoles, who I think the cray ate.  Eventually this left only one female cray in there.  I had half a small flowerpot in there as her 'cave' and replenished the anachris after she'd eat it.  She finally had that molt where they just burst in size, and that's when I brought her to Raul, along with one of my guys from home.  She went from about 2.5" to 4" almost overnight it seemed with that molt.

When doing the water changes on that little triangle tank, I'd put the suction hose  in the ugf tube, jiggling the tank a little to get extra debris out.  Every month or so, I'd do it twice, although I sometimes had a few guppies in there, so I think it warranted some extra cleanout on occasion - I could always tell when there was extra debris after having sucked out 50% or so.
