  • Odyssea EX350 Assembly

I finally received all the part for Odyssea EX350 except installation instruction.  This is my very first internal filter / powerhead.  I took a picture of all the parts so whoever wants to explain please refer to the picture.  My questions are:
    1.  the sponges are inside plastic cover.  Do I take the sponges out of the cover?
    2.  What is the plastic tube for?

The sponges stays as they are.. you install the sponge canister to the bottom of the power head.. if you dont want to have the sponge canister installed you want to install the little part between the sponge canister and powerhead.   The small tube installs on the side of the exhaust side allowing you to add air into the water using the venturi effect.  The valve on the end allows you to control the amount of air enters into the water.  Basically a power head without the sponges and just the tube installed is basically a mechanical aerator.

    Hopefully this will help.

Oh, no. No keyboard.  No way.

Man, one of the three suction cups doesn't stick to the tank.  And that powerhead is loud (I am being spoiled by Eheim.)  Is there quiet powerheads in the market?
Can I not let the air goes inside the powerhead?

I am going to let it run tonight and check it out tomorrow to see if the water gets clear.  If not, bye bye EX350.  I give it away for a dollar for anyone who is willing to pick it up.

Any experienced powerhead users please give me advise.

turn it off, make sure there isnt any air in the filter, start it again.
I dont run the air tube on mine, it makes too much noise, just aim it to the top so that the surface has some ripples.

When I tried to flip the thing outside the outlet tube aiming to the surface, the current will push it parallel to the oulet tube.  Can the powerhead motor be out of the water so the outlet tube can be right below the water surface or it must be submerged under the water?

I believe the whole unit works best if its completely submerged... but I dont know 100%

The top/motor part can be out of water if needed, I don't see a problem with it but having it fully submerged will probably help it run cooler.

It got pretty quiet after running 2 days.  A lot of the white particles are gone.  Wow, $27 investiment are worth it.  I am not sure if I am going to switch to AquaClear.  Aquaclear and its quick filter look a lot better than Odyssea.

                    Zulaab,

Isn't there more contact area between sponge and the tank water of the sponge is not inside the sponge canister?
Will Cichlids bites the sponges if there are food particle stucked on the sponges when they are not inside the canister?
