  • What are these snails that keep appearing?

I just got rid of about 99% of the Ram's Horn snails that filled my tanks, now I have a snail that keeps multiplying in all the tanks that looks different from the Ram's Horns.
It's round, and tapers to a point at the back.
They grow fast, in 2 or 3 weeks they have gone from dots to BB size to ball bearing size.
Anyone know what they are, and are they a problem?

No snail eaters...I have Apple Snails and Mystery Snails, which I really like.
My yellow Mysterys are golf ball size, and just laid an egg mass.
I just don't know if the snail horde growing in my tanks should be pruned or removed.
I would like to know where they came from, but even more are they beneficial to the aquaculture, or just a nuisance?
Muzungu named the Ram's Horn snails right away, so I guess they are a common problem. The other snail is nicer looking, but multiplying too fast to be cool.

          Pond Snails.
I read a few articles online, and they are described as football shaped...yep, that's them.
The only name given was Pond Snail.
I guess the snail genocide continues in my tanks, they multiply too fast.

Yup, that's what I was gonna say. Pond snails. Sigh...there's no end in sight!

Edit: Here's a page with pictures of some of the more common snails you can end up with.

Edit again: Here's those loaches I was telling you about, if you ever think about getting some snail-eaters:

I got those, too. Look for any clear jelly masses with white dots in the water and remove them. They usually lay their eggs on the side of glass, plants or driftwood.

Oh yeah, did you buy any plants recently? My snails usually piggyback to back my place on those it seems.

Re: What are these snails that keep appearing?

All mine came from 2 batches of Hornwort I put in; I saw the eggs on the tank, but in my past ignorance I thought they were from my Apple Snails...boy, was I wrong!
Thanks for the link, the photos and article verified my theories.
I will remove the Pond snails the same way I did the Ram's Horns...by netting them out day after day 'til I never see another one.
If I don't see them, they're welcome to live here.
Pond snails seem to fall to the bottom, and the Ram's Horns floated...gonna be hard to remove the Pond Snails.
                  Thanks for the input, everyone!

One day too late...I dumped the Ram's Horns yesterday. I'll save the Pond Snails for you, I was thinking too bad I don't know anybody with a Puffer...and I do!

I actually have 4. A green spotted, neon/green/green bottle, red-eyed, and a fahaka. And they all love snails.
