Can someone please help me ID this pleco? I got it at Houston Aquatics a couple of days ago, and it was listed as a Columbian Spotted Pleco.

Brownsnoutuk - what do you think?

P.S. jbicb3, could you post a side view of the pleco, if you have one?

Sometimes sold as a Gibby, also considered a common

Well, I am no good at this pleco ID stuff, but I remember ordering colombian spotted plecos a few times when I worked at an LFS in Florida. After looking up our distributor, they have the Colombian Spotted Pleco listed as L-165, Glyptoperichthys CF Gibbiceps.

It's very confusing for me when someone says "common pleco," from what I've seen that can mean many different species.  :aua:

IME, if it gets big and is brown, odds are it will be called a common.  In fact, I think they are now hybrids kept in the same breeding ponds.

To me if it looks like a common...including gibbs....then it is a common.

L-001, gibby... i heard they breed these guys up in asia so some stores call them "asian spotted pleco" - like Fish-R-Fun...

And they are pretty common , i even caught a few in san antonio.
                        Plecos:
