  • Goldfish in an aquarium

Ok, I know this is a somewhat redundant subject, but I'm just double checking to make sure I've got things right.....

I have four fancy goldfish in my 10 gal tank.  They're small now, but I understand that they produce higher amounts of waste than most fish, correct?  Which produces ammonia, right?  Therefore, I should definatley check with my LFS to see if they'll take them(since I obviously don't want to let them kill themselves and the other fish in the tank).  Does anybody know if Petsmart would take these guys back?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

    I'm sure they would

You are right about the water quality issues, they poop and produce ammonia and that many in such a small tank becomes bad fast. I think it could be managable if they are tiny goldfish with lots of water changes to keep the bad stuff out but then again that might take away from fish keeping.

Why not just upgrade or just keep one of them?

Welcome to the site by the way.

If you bought them more than 14 days ago then im pretty sure they wont take them back.
Maybe someone on www.dallasfishbox.com will trade you something else for them?

Yeah, I'm asking my friends if they might want them, but unfortunately all of the fishkeepers that i know are high schoolers that are strapped for cash(and therefore unable to support a large enough tank for these guys), lol.  But you guys are sure that no fish stores would just accept these guys?  I wouldn't want any store credit or anything, I'm just looking out for the welfare of the fish.

sorry for not mentioning the other fish, Brownsnoutuk
for any people that don't feel like going to my other post to find out about the other fish, I also have:
-1 Zebra Danio(yes, that's right, only one, perhaps I should add some others to the tank once the goldfish have moved into better homes)
-1 suspected Chichlid(a little yellow and black guy, maybe 1.5-2 inches long, relatively active)

Oh, and I've had the goldfish for about a month.

he's got yellow and black vertical stripes on his body, and his dorsal fin is all black.  all of the other fins are yellow, but with black on the veeeeeeerry edge of the fin.

McKinney, TX is located about 15 miles north of Plano which in turn is about 20 miles north of Dallas downtown.  From DT Houston to DT McKinney you are looking at about 270 miles

You may can find a LFS that would take them.  Your chain stores won't but if you are just giving them away so that they will have a better home, most of your LFS that carry bread and butter type fish should be able to accomodate them.

I hate when that happens.  It's like folks go digging back in the archives, blow the cobwebs off of it and start chatting away....LOL.
