I'd be interested to see what the par levels are... that's a lot of light to be sitting that close to the tank

Also make sure all rock are secure. Crabs and snails will knock them down. And the rock on the right looks to close to the glass. Make sure you can fit a scrubber in between.

Oh Yea it wasn't complete when i took pic i decided to do the rest in the ac. Drilling glass is easy but takes time.Do not apply pressure, let the weight of the drill do the work. My buddy drilled the first hole and told me to give the other a try and it was easy. We used plumbers puddy to create a bowl around the drill site and filled with water to reduce heat. You can also have someone holding a hose and spraying the area while drilling.
Do it take the leap again !! Its fun

cool, I didn't see the brackets. Good luck either way, looks like a great start. Keep the updates coming. I've got a 40B in the garage also collecting dust and I'm getting the itch...I may follow your lead.
BTW, drilling the glass...tough, easy? Leave it to the pro's? Any advice?

Yea I was short on on 2x4s so i added some metal brackets to beef it up. Once tank is establish I don't know how long a 40 will last me before an upgrade might have to knock the dust off another tank I have collecting dust.Figure I start small and lose small.Originally posted by kewlkatdady View Postcongrats on taking the salt leap...I've been keeping fres for 20+ years, did salt once and it didn't go well. But I was too young and didn't have the $$$ or knowledge to do it correctly. I'm thinking about doing it again. Good luck.
Something I noticed though...your DIY scares me a little though... If I can make a suggestion. You need to add a couple of verticle 2x4's between the top and bottom horizontal 2x4's to get the weight off the screws. This makes the wood the load support not a few screws.
