It is a Civil Right's Ordinance protecting Houstonians from discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, familial status, marital status, military status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, and pregnancy. The full Ordinance can be found here, it has not been passed yet by the City Council.

I believe the area of concern is Section 17-51 paragraph (b) involving restrooms and those that enter in good faith that is appropriate to that person's gender identity.

Roy, I've found that certain individuals are utterly incapable of getting a good grasp of the concept of gender identity.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, I just wanted to post up what this was. I myself know many transgendered men and women. They experience a severe amount of prejudice, discrimination, and hurt throughout their lives. I realize many never have the privileged of knowing such a person or knowing what they deal with every day to express who they feel they are. I can say their courage and perseverance has always inspired me through my own struggles. Those I have known are kind hearted and would never hurt those around them, they would be the ones to take the time to help that lost child or elderly person that others might have ignored.

Thanks for the input and fair opinions. Yes, I think the pedophiles could try to use this to their advantage. I believe we have good civil laws in place already.

Sadly, I'm not sure a pedophile is concerned with the law.

As a woman, I am very uncomfortable with men of any gender identity or age in the rest room with me. I really dislike it when I find small boys in the restroom even though I understand the problem their mother has with what to do with the child while using the rest room. Personally, I think restrooms should not be gender based but rather equipment based. If you have to sit, go here, if you can stand go there. :P

I sympathize with someone who has identity issues, however, does that mean I have to give up my right to feel safe while using a public restroom?

Unless we go to unisex(gender)bathrooms I'd rather see this issue fail.
