Bird watchers, campers?

The Valley is a very cool place to bird, but it has nothing on High Island during migration. During migration High Island is the place to be in Texas, but Texas in general is one of the best places in the US to bird. The Texas Coastal Birding Trail is reknown.

it's been a few years since we went to The Valley. Green Jays are one of my favorite birds. On my 1st visit to The Valley we saw brown jays and that was something. They are about as big as crows.

I;m from the "valley", and while not a birder, do occasionally enjoy the variety down there

As a matter of fact will be going down for Fathers Day

I will be spending a week at South Padre Island

which is only about 20 minutes or so from my parents house

To be fair, in the 10 years I've lived in Cypress I've only seen them over our house once, but I've heard after heavy rains they can be seen at Bear Creek Park because it floods.

Yards are all relative. We have a very small yard in Cypress, but when we go down to Rockport Karen's parent's have a huge yard and it backs up to a preserve. Now you can do some serious birdwatching there! It always makes us long for a place out in the country

In Cypress, really? Wow. I would have never known. I guess it's kind of like people up north seeing a cardinal or something, but I was excited. :) I miss living by a forest, watching birds every morning and afternoon. Can't wait to get a backyard! :)

There's several in that area. You can see them all along the coast, but I've also seen them over our house in Cypress.

When I worked in Freeport, I would see these guys all the time.

There is a wildlife refuge there, not too far away from the Plant I worked at.

I love spoonbills! They are both beautiful and ugly :)

I just saw my first-ever Roseate Spoonbill! In Pearland, of all places! At first a few of them were congregated around a little temporary watering hole on the intersection of 288 and the Beltway. I thought I was hallucinating when I saw a crowd of pink birds. But then I saw two of them flying together overhead, and noted the shape of beak.

Pretty cool! Never thought I'd see my first one in the middle of two highways intersecting. :)

Great pics of an Osprey, and you're right, they are impressive. Kingfishers are one of my very favorite birds. :)

Not big on bird watching, but I have seen a wide variety of them in the brush or trees on shore while out bassfishing, those sea hawks are pretty impressive looking, and I've been lucky to catch a kingfisher in action once or twice.

Shane and I love hiking, but we havn't done much camping. We are planning a camping trip in the Spring :)
