IMHO, we need a thread like this so the members know how the mods feel and what we have been doing.
As of late, there has been a disconnect between member and mods. A perfect example is the new term ninja and its use on this forum. Hopefully, this thread let's y'all know what we been faced with and why we react to it the way we do.

its just like you said its the internet its hard to tell who is being sarcastic and who aint it is different when you meet someome you know how they act but if a mod wants to close this thread they can i made a point about the member i felt was dissrespecting the communityOriginally posted by myjohnson View PostTrust me brah. Once you meet me you will know. I have never banned a person nor even give an infraction. If anything I'm the one defending people form getting banned.
You have violated rules. Do you want me to cite to them for you? It's just the Internet and I don't get buthurt and try to ban people for it.
I been on the box for 5 years. Things haven't always been like this. Everyone use to be a lot more friendly. Not nameing names, but the new round of members seem to be a lot more aggressive.

The biggest thing I've noticed about the forum in the last year is this.
Threads that have substance and really benefit us as hobbyist are not what they once were and they might last a few pages at best.
Threads like this run on and on and on and on and on.
We need to make a new years resolution to get this site back to the core value that made it what it has been and can be again.
This is a great hobby and it's just that a hobby that gives a lot of hard working folks a place to escape and share ideas and such in a open forum that helps advance the betterment of what we enjoy.
Stay positive or keep it to your self in 2013 is my .2 cent worth.

it's troubling to say but I agree with Gene and MJ.
sigh, I usually cause trouble to the two but on this one I have to agree. I've seen both sides play out pretty badly but he did take it to a whole new level on that thread.
Everyone is pretty much guilty at one point or another, whether it be personal attacks or actual threats.

Answers to several questions and comments in this thread:
The way infractions work are on a points system. You can see that here --> http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforum...ng-Infractions
We just recently increased the infraction points for Personal Attacks. There is no infraction for asking what some may consider dumb questions. There is no infraction for asking the same question over and over. There is no infraction for being irritating. There is, however, an expectation that all members have some level of self control.
We will not ban someone just because some members don't like them. But if their behavior results in infractions, they will eventually end up banning themselves.
There is no excuse for ridiculing someone on HFB. I used to say that fish people were some of the nicest people I know....however, this is becoming less and less the case. If someone asks what you consider to be a dumb question, and you know you are unable to reply without being a jerk, then just move on to another thread. It's very simple. And the same goes for reacting poorly to what you might consider "being ridiculed". If someone feels they are being ridiculed, they can report the post and let the mods evaluate it, delete it, issue infractions, or whatever....and in the meantime, you can either ignore it, or move on to another thread. Reacting poorly will usually end up in an infraction.
The Ignore Option is what it is. It's a built-in feature, and is not something I can change. If you put someone in your Ignore List, then see that they posted and you actively view the ignored post, THAT'S ON YOU. We can't do everything for you. We can give you tools, but it's up to you to use them. If you can't practice some level of self-control, well, that's a personal defect and nothing I do will fix that.
There will ALWAYS be someone who gets on your nerves on a forum. This will never change. The sooner everyone accepts this, the sooner we can all just relax and enjoy the site.

Re: noob calling people noob
+1 I understand and very much appreciate how lax the rules are and I do think the second chance is a great idea. However, I agree with Sunny. If one were to stoop to that level, I'd support a perma-ban. There's no need to have to find ways around the profanity censor just because you get upset... It is a "Family friendly" forum.Originally posted by SunnyHouTX View PostLumping all offenders to the level that Johnsbra123 was behaving is a non-starter. At that level, I can support a one-and-done ban.
