thats what i am talking about nick, old school fiddle. looks late 80s. my 92 carvin v220 is the best guitar 6 string i have played to date and gets better every year. of course, i might not be staying that if i still had the jackson RR1 and KV2 that i bought at the same time. someone broke into out van and liked those more than they thought i did. *&@$*&

thats what i thought would happen too nick but i find that i can ignore the B string since its on top and i index my pick hand with my pinkie finger. with standard tuning, you can use a similar string set and just mute the B if you arent using it.Originally posted by sunkenmetal View PostI have a hard enough time with six strings

the schecter hellraiser 7 has a thick D type neck that i didnt like. bc rich didnt have much but i havent tried the high end kerry king vee. the only jackson 7 i liked was the slat3-7 which is really nice but i have kinda moved back to passive pickups and fixed bridges, plus its pricey. The Dean RC-7G is outstanding but is set up the same way, most of the other deans feel sterile to me. IF i get serious i will order a carvin DC727, once you play a carvin you will never go back if your a fan of the way jacksons play. For the mid level 7 stings i did like the ibanez xiphos 7. if you can find a 98-99 era ibanez rg7620 or 21 then that was a damn sweet guitar. the rg7420 / 21 from those years often shipped with the neck from the higher end 76 series so sometimes you can get a great deal if someone doesnt know what they have. i have an epiphone flying v-7 that played pretty well for the money too, until some jackarse knocked it over.
hopefully this isnt considered thread jacking but you cant talk metal without talking geets

I've always been a fan of Jacksons and Schecter. If I ever did decide to get a 7 string I would more then likely go with them. Most of their guitars ive held felt right and not so bulgy like most 7 strings do.

i like the 7 since i can play in standard tuning and still get some crunch. i would like to get a better one than the fernandez revolver 7 i have. it plays pretty well but i am spoiled by the low action on my jacksons and carvin. i had a schecter devil spine 8 and decided the F# sting is just ridiculous. the action, bridge and neck on that thing was superb though, too bad they didnt make the hellraiser 7 the same way. My old guitar instructor had an agile ghost 7 and he loves them but was signed by schecter so i never got to try it out. i would also look at a music man JPX if i were serious, now its getting stupid pricey
im not sure how i feel about periphery yet, the music seems busy. i got into nevermore just in time for them to break up, loomis is a beast. check out a local band called Day of Reckoning. Rusty Cooley on guitar and my boy sherman on bass. its shredtasticLast edited by Totenkampf; 06-12-2012, 10:17 AM.

I too recently got back in to play guitar. I feel the 7 string is unnecessary but, at some point or another I agree with it.
FYI Periphery is coming to town July 28th. I managed to get tickets for my lil brother and I.

hell yes, i used to play guitar and vox in a death metal band. notice i say play vox cuz i cant sing for anything but i could scream lol. other influences were/are deadhorse, sodom, slayer, old metallica, coroner, immortal, racer x, rusty cooley, sepultura, samael, etc but mostly grave and obituary. i played around with the idea of getting back up to speed a few months back and bought a 7 string so i have been checking out bands like nevermore and periphery. havent had time to play much tho.Originally posted by ometh View PostLol Toten.
