There is a deer in my backyard! Make that TWO deer! *pics*

They found their way out. I never got that close to them, and I would have only helped direct them towards the gate if they really couldn't figure it out before bedtime since I'd need to close all the gates by then.

Do not approach them. Deer are wary prey animals who view humans as predators. Thier first instinct is always to flee, however not being able to find their way out they may become aggressive. When trapped and frightened deer are capable of causing serious harm. Bucks will use both antlers and their hooves when seriously threatened. I know you want to help but I would allow them to figuire it out on thier own, that will also be less stressfull on them.

So far, I've only been able to get a picture of the larger one. They're watching me from behind the bushes so it's hard to get pictures of them. I'll keep trying. I'd like to get them both together.

They're pacing back and forth, trying to figure out how to get out.

When it gets darker, I'll wait until they're on the side with the open gate, and the slowly walk towards them to encourage them to go around the corner and out the gate. In the meantime, I have to admit, I'm really enjoying having them here! They are really beautiful!

I have no idea what to do, but I am almost positive they won't try to harm you. They'll hurt themselves trying to get away before they even think of hurting you.

I came home from class, changed into something more comfortable, and then went out onto the patio to relax a bit. Next thing I knew, there were a pair of eyes staring at me.

The deer is a young buck (small antlers). I just opened the other gate in hopes he'll go out that way, but he's not getting the hint.

Just as I started typing this, a second deer appeared! It's smaller, more of a young one.

This is the 3rd time this has happened in the last 2 weeks!

We have lived here for 15 years, and while deer have always been in the area, we never had problems of them getting into our backyard. I know why they're getting in. We adopted a cat about 3 years ago. It arrived nearly dead with badly infected wounds. It hadn't been neutered so we figured it was homeless. It took almost a month for him to heal enough to be able to finally be neutered. Since then, he's lived in our backyard and garage (he's not suitable for inside the house). He likes to look out the gate so my husband started leaving the gate open for him. That was 3 years ago. And now we're starting to get deer into our backyard!

They haven't figured out how to get out yet. If they get really spooked, will they charge me? Or hurt me in some other way? My backyard is a regular suburban fenced in yard, but the forest is behind my house. The older bucks can jump the 6' fence, but these two don't seem to know to jump it. I'm hoping they'll go around the corner and discover that there is an open gate on that side for them go to out.

What do you do when deer get trapped into a regular suburban backyard?
