    Acarichthys heckelii

    Description:
    A very attractive fish, the Acarichthys heckelii has recently been known as Geophagus Heckelli. They have a more round head compared to most Geophagus and are pronounced by an orange spot bhind the gill and black dot on the body. They fin trailers grow out in many thread like extension, giving it the name, Thread fin Geophagus. They sift through sand for feeding and spit out substrate and other inedible substances. Breeding is not easily achieved with these fish are not bi-parental mouth brooders like most other Geophagus species.
