    Category:
    Puffers

    Common Name:
South American Puffer, Peruvian Puffer, Amazon Puffer

    Scientific Name:
    Colomesus asellus

    Description:
South American Puffers (SAPs) are peaceful and very active. Sometimes can be pretty nervous. They can be kept together in groups, however can sometimes show aggression towards each other. If you've kept cichlids, the aggression is very similar.

Upper half of the body is olive green with an irregular pattern of 5 or 6 transverse bands. The underside of the body is yellow to white. The eyes are very mobile; the pupil is black and the iris is yellow to gold.

Thrive in a moderate to heavy planted tank with lots of areas to explore. Boredom can cause them to pace the glass.

They are very prone to overgrown teeth. Be sure to provide crunchy foods as a staple, or be prepared for DIY dental work.
